Preparing for wild adventures, caravanning around Australia with three kids and a cat.
How Great Escape Caravans helped this adventurous family prepare for life on the road in a family caravan with bunks, built especially for their needs.
Facebook groups, plenty of research, and so many recommendations to visit Great Escape Caravans meant Ami and Stephen had to see what the fuss was about and whether Jason and Anthony were the real deal.
With plans to pack up the tribe, Ami, Stephen, the kids Elijah (age 11), Reuben (age 9) and Oscar (Age 6) to travel Australia in a caravan indefinitely, the family knew they had to choose wisely when investing in what would be their permanent home on the road for an unknown length of time.
Google searches led them to the ‘big brands’ where they visited yards, took a look around, and Stephen mentions ‘we were often ignored, or felt like we were imposing on their day by wanting more information’. On one occasion, when asking about customising a family caravan that wasn’t quite right, the couple were told, ‘Just leave your deposit and order, we can work on the rest once your order is confirmed. ’ (Insert major red flags here)!
When asking other caravanning families about their experiences, Ami and Stephen were repeatedly told about Great Escape Caravans, with standout comments from Jason and Anthony about getting each caravan right for each customer, with nothing feeling like it was too much trouble.
The overall consensus, and what Ami and Stephen were keen to find out more about, was that the team at Great Escape Caravans just wanted people to enjoy their caravans. It’s not about the dollars, it’s about seeing people happy.
After years in the industry and helping people enjoy caravanning in Australia, we were so pleased to discover that this is the consensus in the market, and our work has paid off.
“If the fact that we make people feel welcome and comfortable in getting precisely what they want in a caravan is what we are known for, we’ll take it!” Jason & Anthony.
We asked Ami and Stephen to tell us where they had been shopping before coming to us, and what helped them confidently choose a Great Escape Caravan in the end. Here is what they said.
“Of course, the first places we went included some more widely known brands in the industry. We quickly got the feeling you were paying for the (brand) name, not the quality, customer service or additional inclusions.
After being made to feel that a simple request was out of the question, or that seeking a customised option was in the too-hard basket, we quickly recognised their difference when we eventually called Great Escape Caravans.
We spent quite a while on the phone with Jason, and not once did we feel like we were being ‘sold to.’ Jason was happy chatting about our needs and wants, where and how we wanted to travel, and our family needs.
On our first visit to the showroom, we walked into a very relaxed space. We looked around all the models, asked all the questions we needed to and felt like part of the family.”
When looking closely at each Great Escape Caravans family caravan with bunks, the family couldn’t fault the quality and finishes. Compared to the brands they had looked at before, it seemed the only differences were the ‘big brand’ sticker on the outside and the BIG difference in price tags that came with that!
Stephen says, “The quality and service from Great Escape Caravans was ‘friken amazing! Not a bad word to say about them. We, of course, spent quite a while working on the layout of the caravan we wanted, to produce a customised family caravan that suited our exact needs.
Jason and Anthony spent hours assisting us in person and over the phone. Chantel assisted in the design suite when it was time to choose our colours and finishes, and we never felt rushed.
And, we were never asked for a deposit until our custom family caravan design was finalised and heading to the factory for manufacturing.
The whole experience gave us complete confidence in the entire process.”
Ami and Stephen have designed a custom family caravan for themselves, their three growing boys and even included a special space for the family cat Lily who will be travelling around Australia with them from January 2026.
Excited for what’s to come, Ami and Stephen Beck have invited us to follow along as they start their indefinite adventures around Australia with their family. Beginning in 2026, Stephen, a Primary School Teacher, will be homeschooling their three kids, while Ami, a Paediatric Nurse, becomes a full-time mum on the road.
The kids, tasked with learning on the open road, discovering amazing places and learning about life in one of the most beautiful classrooms in the world, Australia.
This is one adventure we are keen to follow along with. Follow the Beck Family on Instagram here @outbeckadventures

Edit: Unfortunately, Lily the cat became ill before her off-grid adventures. Sadly, she has passed, leaving her lead for walks with the family, and her life jacket for swims, ready for the families next companion. Maybe a new family pet will be found somewhere along the way, ready for adventure…
