From showroom to family adventures - how we built the perfect caravan for the Stead family.
Ricky and his wife had adventure in mind for their family of four, getting their young kids to spend more time in nature, enjoying the great outdoors, making memories of their own and learning more about our great country by experiencing it together.
After a lifetime of camping in tents and swags himself, Ricky was keen to upgrade to a family caravan. With two young kids having bunks, a kitchen, and a bathroom all set up quickly when they find a camping spot to get everyone settled together, it just made sense when deciding between tents and a caravan when travelling with kids.
Discovering Great Escape Caravans.
Word of mouth brought the Stead family to Great Escape Caravans to view the vast range of family caravans. Their close friends were also in the market for a new caravan. They were raving about the affordability of the quality Australian-made caravans, so the family visited to check out the range for themselves.
Having just moved into our new indoor showroom, Ricky was one of the first visitors through the door and says, “After visiting other caravan yards, we were blown away by the indoor showroom and the ability to walk through and see all the models on display. Choosing the best family caravan layout and specifications for their travelling style.
One of the things we pride ourselves on is the customer experience, and the feedback from Ricky is exactly what we want for all our visitors.
Having many of the family caravans with bunks on display allowed Ricky to experience the layout in person, and with many interior and exterior colours on display, he was able to determine precisely what he wanted for his family and say ‘I want that colour combo’ while pointing at the caravan that had caught his eye!
Ricky and his family chose a Special Edition 21.6 Series 2 family caravan with two bunks and a modern colour combination that will remain classic for many years.
Viewing the model in person and spending time with Jason and Anthony in the design suite made confirming and ordering their family caravan seamless. Ricky chose the colour for the exterior and interior finishes directly from an in-stock model, and decided on a few additional changes to the layout while in the showroom.
“Being able to speak with the designers of the actual caravan and knowing the caravan was being made locally allowed me to ask for small tweaks to the layout of the bunk area, as well as reduce the height of the lounge. Anthony made it seem like no trouble, and everything was too easy.”

“Building locally with Anthony giving daily updates during the build allowed for minor changes throughout the process, and nothing was too much trouble. We received video, images and feedback during each phase of the build, and it helped build trust in our decision to invest in a Great Escape Caravan” Ricky says.

Delivery day and travelling with a new family caravan.
Whether you’ve had a caravan before or this is your first one, we’ll spend as much time as you need to run through everything. We show you how to use each appliance, set up your caravan on site, show you where everything is, and equip you with supporting documents and warranties.
With each caravan we run through safe towing practices and ensure you feel comfortable before heading out on your first adventure, and for Ricky, this step was vital as he was planning their very first trip the next day!
The two kids were very excited to visit the indoor showroom and have their own adventures through the caravans while they hitched their new family caravan up to their car, and Ricky tells us, “We had the best time on our first trip and have had many since! Every weekend, the kids ask if they can go again. It was the best decision to choose Great Escape Caravans. Jason and Anthony made everything so relaxing, it felt like we were spending $20, not at all like we were making a large investment.”
